Description and Impact:
WEF is collaborating with Edu-Girls, Inc. and Vimukti Sanstha to provide vocational scholarships to deserving young girls after the completion of their 12th standard.
Vimukti provides free education to the underprivileged girls of the urban slum areas in and near Jaipur, Rajasthan.
These scholarships will allow successful recipients to participate in skills development programs and soft skills training aimed at career building. Edu-Girls, Inc. and Vimukti consulted with the girls and their parents to identify quality professional development courses. Spoken English and career counseling session were conducted from October 2015 to January 2016-the same have been resumed in April.
The program is now being expanded to none Vimukti girls. The target area was the outskirts of Jaipur city (around 20 km from the city center) where poor rural families live. The project team has identified Xavier Vocational Institute for capacity building of these needy girls. 21 girls have been selected by the team for the course in beauty culture. The aim is to enable these children to break the barriers for earning by providing developmental skills.
